There's nothing sweeter than passing out Halloween candy on your porch with your husband and your toddler dressed as a dinosaur when you happen to check your email and find that one of your poems has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

"Father as a Lost Landscape" was nominated by Jet Fuel Review and is forthcoming in their next issue on November 21, 2024. While you're there make sure to take a moment to appreciate their always cool cover art.

As happy a moment as this is, it also stings to reread this poem on the eve of Dia de Los Muertos. I appreciate so much that Jet Fuel Review valued this poem, which was written after my father passed away this summer. And as complicated as our relationship was, I am grateful to my father for giving me the inspiration to write it and for raising me in a creative household. If I could make it into a song, I would for you, Dad.
